Living in Bulgaria
BPS understands that you are probably wondering what it is like living in
Bulgaria. To either spend a holiday in your Bulgarian property, or extended
periods of time in Bulgaria. Making that all important commitment to live
permanently in this wonderful and diverse country. Clearly, the best way to
understand is to experience it.
The Weather:
Bulgaria has a variety of terrains at different altitudes above sea level,
which is reflected in diverse climates. Generally, the summers are hot with
temperatures around 30 degrees Celsius and winters can be cold, especially in
the mountains, where temperatures can drop below minus 20 degrees Celsius.
Along the Black Sea coast, winters are usually mild without great extremes. The
areas close to the Greek and Turkish borders can have an almost Mediterranean
climate.
Security:
Personal security is of a great concern both for Bulgarians, holidaymakers and
investors in properties, alike. After the turbulent 90s, life started to settle
down and statistically the crime rates in Bulgaria are no higher than in
London. An ongoing problem is theft from country properties. Obviously, you can
have insurance which covers all damages, however to avoid these problems,
purchase properties in villages, where people are living all year round. The
installation of decorative security bars on all vulnerable windows and doors is
recommended. BPS property management service can assist you in all aspects of
property security.
Cost of Living:
Living in Bulgaria is cheaper than in the UK, one of the main reasons people
make a decision to invest in property in Bulgaria. To secure a standard of
living, similar to the average in the UK, you will need a monthly income of
about €1,000.
As a property owner, you will be liable to pay annually for the collection of
garbage (about €50) and building tax (about €70). Obviously these will vary
according to location and size of the property.
